9/15/2023 0 Comments Dichen lachman altered carbon cast![]() ![]() Note that I'm not dissing Altered Carbon in any way, I've read it at least 5 times and I remember not being able to put it down the first time, I plowed through that shit in like 2 days. Like, I know Saving Private Ryan is a better movie than Three Kings, but I enjoy Three Kings a hell of a lot more. But I separate enjoyment and appreciation for quality in my mind when I evaluate things. I actually ENJOY Altered Carbon and Star Wars more than their sequels in most ways. That said, I'll rephrase what I said before in the food analogy. Both Altered Carbon and the first Star Wars are the most exciting and flashy and imaginative of their respective trilogies, but their second stories are better - IMO - for structure and storytelling reasons. That's why I think the Star Wars analogy is apt. Like, the author himself has grown and writes in a more mature, nuanced fashion. When i say more mature, I mean Broken Angels and Woken Furies felt much more restrained in an 'adult' way to me. a super ninja monk who's a psychopathic badass who scores the hot chicks and is awesome with the bostaff skills (to quote Napoleon Dynamite), you know what I mean? A lot of it feels like rather juvenile fantasy. but I gotta say Altered Carbon has the 'feel' that Morgan was channeling his inner 14 year old at times. But that could also just be the sequel effect. #Īre you really sure that AC is less "mature" though? It got a lot better accolates and recognition than BA or WF.
